INDIGO CHILDREN PREVIEW ‘TRAITORS AND FOOLISH FRIENDS’

November 19th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in News

Indigo Children

Indigo Children (formerly known as The Superfuzz) have posted a version of ‘Traitors And Foolish Friends’ on their MySpace. The band recently completed a three day, studio recording session with top British producer John Leckie as part of the British Council Soundpad thingy, and played a gig at the Blue Frog in support of the same.

‘Traitors’ is perhaps the band’s closest Wolfmother tribute. It has been performed by the band in its original lineup, and this version of the song does sound like a demo-ey, Aditya Paharia-era recording. It’s catchy and has just the right amount of start-stop melody working for it. Kinda like ‘Pyramid‘. And ‘Dimension‘. Did I mention ‘Woman‘?

Still, it’s a great watch live and if Leckie’s produced a studio version, that should be exciting.

Listen to ‘Traitors And Foolish Friends‘.

LIVE: ADVAITA, INDIGO CHILDREN @ BLUE FROG

October 20th, 2008 | 7 Comments | Posted in Gigs

Advaita + Lounge Piranha

Two of the four British Council Soundpad participants took stage at the Blue Frog on Sunday night. Delhi acts Advaita and Indigo Children (formerly known as The Superfuzz) have the opportunity to record in studio with ace Brit producer John Leckie. While Indigo Children have completed their alloted three day session, Advaita begin their studio time today. Swarathma and Medusa are the other two acts on the Soundpad roster.

The result of the Soundpad sessions will be a compilation disc which should be out later this year. Now to the proceedings.

A Sunday evening, 8:30pm gig featuring Indigo Children should’ve been hot news for the Blue Frog’s ‘younger’ audience. However, the venue was barely full with a crowd of less than 100. Among those present were the Soundpad and CCR peeps, joined by one section of the audience to the right of the stage whose enthusiasm wasn’t justified by the performance of one of the two acts that played.

Head downstairs for the full review, pics and the Indiecision.

THIS WEEK’S TOP GIG PICKS

October 13th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in News

Your guide to the top gigs in town (Mumbai town), weekly.

The Supersonics

If you’re a gig fan, this week’s going to be hard on your pocket.

On Tuesday (Oct 14) we have Kolkata based The Supersonics at Hard Rock Cafe. The Supersonics (website, MySpace) are an alternative act with a lot of stolen lessons but decent melodies. They’re also playing Blue Frog on Wednesday (Oct 15) but everyone knows that though the sound at Hard Rock isn’t as good, the VFM is way better.

Thurday (Oct 16) sees the launch of Ashutosh Phatak’s new album Sigh Of An Angel at the Blue Frog. Phatak’s gig at the Frog earlier this year wasn’t much to write home about (though Indiecision did), but his press release promises that

Ashu’s on-stage energy and theatrics during live performances are as adrenalin pumping for the audience as they appear to be for him.

The gig is free but is scheduled to start at 10:00pm and will therefore, start at 11.

On Sunday, we have Indigo Children (formerly known as The Superfuzz) and Advaita playing the gig that the Blue Frog mailing system erroneously scheduled for last week.

So postpone buying that iPod for a couple of weeks and watch some live music in Mumbai.

MEDUSA GET IN STUDIO WITH JOHN LECKIE

October 10th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in News

Medusa

Medusa, Advaita, Indigo Children (formerly known as The Superfuzz) and Swarathma are the four bands that get to spend three precious days each in studio with acclaimed producer John Leckie. British Council’s Soundpad initiative saw a bunch of bands battle it out earlier this year for the opportunity to record with Leckie with just four bands making the cut. Over the next two weeks the Council will be posting videos of the bands in studio on the official (and drop linked) website.

Medusa hit the studio first. The electronic kids from Mumbai have seen a major change in direction (and lineup) since their first album Survival Of The Fittest. In their first video (Day 1) we see them recording the song ‘I Become I’. The band are visibly nervous and let Leckie have a free hand with the direction of the song.

Hit the jump for the video.
