THIS WEEK’S TOP GIG PICKS

September 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in News

Your guide to the top gigs in town (Mumbai town), weekly.

Shaa'ir + Func

The gig lineup for this week is pretty strong and if you’re wondering what to do on any of the coming five nights, there’s plenty. Here’s the top gig picks for this week.

Them Clones play back to back sets at the Blue Frog on Tuesday and Wednesday. The sets on both days promise (according to Facebook) to be different.

30th Sept (Day 1) will be an unplugged tribute to the Alternative Rock bands from the 90’s: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Incubus, and others (with maybe an original or four thrown in - as a preview to the 2nd day!)

1st October (Day 2) will feature all originals, many of which have become crowd favorites in Mumbai.

Shaa’ir + Func play a set on Friday at D’Ultimate. Other acts at the same gig are DJ Kris Correya and the Bombay Elektrik Project.

Indiecision will be at at least one of the Them Clones sets. So if you spot one to two bespectacled people being pestered by waiters and a girl clicking pictures very fast, say hello.

LIVE: CIRKLES, SECTOR 8, ZERO @ D’ULTIMATE

Zero

This gig was bound to be killer and, for the sake of keeping the good bits in, we’ll assume that neither Cirkles nor Sector 8 played a part in the event. Cirkles is the project of Teemeer from Sceptre and since they play with acoustic guitars, the set, much like Sceptre, consisted of Metallica and Megadeth covers, rendered via aforementioned acoustic guitars. Since they played Metallica, a large portion of the younger audience gave them props but several times during the set Teemeer’s voice audibly (and visibly) faltered.

Cirkles would do much better playing their own songs instead of Seal and Chris Isaak covers.

Sector 8 are a Hindi rock band who are young and I was hungry so I missed that set.

For the review of Zero’s set, plus killer pics courtesy Shirley and the Sony, and the Indiecision, take the ‘Old Man’ jump.
