Tempo Tantrick’s new track ‘Don’t Cry A River’ opens with a ’80s piano/synth sample that sounds like music for a Toyota commercial. The electro-funk duo manage to do nothing extraordinary with this new song spun around the line “Don’t cry a river/It’ll dry in your eyes”.
It sounds pleasant but is essentially unadventurous lines sung to a readymade Chicane beat; not nearly as interesting as ‘The Glitch’, another recent track. The track does though see the band shift to a less industrial sound. It’s not that Tempo Tantrick can’t pull off slower material. They managed fine on the lingering-drops-of-sparkling-liquid ‘Shelf Life’, but ‘River’ just ends up sounding a little meh. Stream it on their MySpace.
