Ticket details for Rock In India 2010 have emerged on the event’s ticketing partner Ticketgenie.in. As Indiecision revealed to you earlier, Backstreet Boys and Richard Marx will perform at this year’s instalment of the annual rock festival. South African alternative act Prime Circle (who toured the country last August) are also part of the lineup.
Rock In India will take place in two cities this year – New Delhi (on Saturday, Feb 20) and Bangalore (on Monday, Feb 22). While ticket details for the gig in the capital (which is at NSIC) haven’t been revealed yet, tickets for the Bangalore event at Palace Grounds will cost Rs 1,000 a pop.
Event promoters DNA Entertainment have not yet made an official statement about Rock In India, and judging by the flak they’re getting, we’re not expecting one soon.

Just when we thought the “scene” is picking up / about to pick up in the country, this is what the promoters of the biggest rock / metal go out and do!

Rock in India and a pop band headlines it? lame ultra lame. There are better bands in India than BSB capable of headlining the event.
Personally, I am not too distraught at the fact that BSB is coming to India. If there’s a market for this kind of music and people enjoy it, let them come, I say, let them entertain people and make money in the bargain. Good for all.
What I do, and I suspect, everyone else, has an issue with, is the dilution of a banner (and the apparent mindlessness of the organizers) that brought some of the biggest metal acts to India. I mean, Filmfare wouldn’t want to ask Bhayanak Maut to open for their awards, would they?
this is craziness. To get a boy band to perform in a concert titled Rock in India, the same place where bands like Ironmaiden and Megadeath performed, heights of craziness.
Even if i get free tickets, i will give this concert a miss.
I actually think it’s just good business sense. Let’s face it, a band like BSB will get a much larger turnout than say The XX or Vampire Weekend who I’d love to see.
Richard Marx and the BSB fit right into our Bryan Adams/Aerosmith programming. We get to watch bands after they’ve cooled off in the rest of the world (and we can afford them).
We just need to educate our audiences. It’ll take time but it’ll happen. And in the meanwhile, we should be happy that we got to watch Mumford and Sons in India. Great gig! That should be our new strategy – catch them BEFORE they get big not 10 years after! :)

After a widespread joke campaign which suggested that pop heroes of yesterday Backstreet Boys and Richard Marx would headline Rock In India in Bangalore, it is now confirmed that the real headliners for the festival will be prog giants Dream Theater and Finnish metallers Children of Bodom. The Rock In India webpage has been down for a few hours, probably to incorporate the new information.

Agree with Neysa. I’m not advocating the causes of RII organizers or anything, purely impartial view being offered.
Yes it sounds completely bizzare that BSB should be headlining a Rock Fest, but look at it this way:
a) This ensures that the crowd coming to the shows is going to be huge, cos face it, there is a bigger market in the country for stuff like BSB, Westlife etc than there is for rock and metal; the latter is still kinda exclusive ;).
b) Since there is a bigger crowd, the organizers rake in more, maybe use the magnificent proceeds to promote rock in a better way in the months to come.
c) This means more people, who currently live their lives swearing by BSB will finally have bands like Indigo children, Swarathma etc thrust upon them, maybe a greater audience for rock and Indie music will be created in the process.
So maybe, just maybe this could turn out to be a clever thing!
Guys chill…Lets stop abusing DNA or Rock in India. They are very innocent. They are trying to help us and are trying to promote Rock and metal in India. This is their plan- As you all know first Iron Maiden concert which was organized by DNA had 40,000 crowd. Megadeth had 20,000 crowd. For bsb they are expecting around 60-70,000. There are lot of gays, maggots, scumbags, matherchods who listen to and suck bsb’s dick. These motherfuckers dont know what real music is and the difference between POP and ROCK.One of them was comparing Megadeth with BSB! Now here’s the catch, DNA/rock in India know that the expected 70000 thousands are gays, maggots, scumbags matherchods and they dont know the difference between pop and rock. After this cocert these gays will think BSBs music is rock and they will fuckin show devil horns and headbang.They are gonna say “I am fuckin Rockstar. I listen to rock yeaaahhh.. Everybody yeeah rock your body… yeah yeah.. These pigs are gonna show devil horns every now and then.. In birthday parties, marriages college fest. Devil horns is going to be the symbol of love. This is so depressing comrades. I am in tears when I see the music sense of our fellow country men. Shame on you DNA/Rock in India. YOu know what we dont have any issue in bringing a gay band, pop band or a hip hop artists. The point is why you are bringing then under the banner ROCK IN INDIA. This fest was headlined by Legends.

I find it frikkin hilarious that ppl have a problem with BsB coming to India. If you dont like them dont go for the concert. Nobody asked or is forcing y’all to go. Personally as a big Rock fan I dont mind BsB performing in India. They are a good group, people like them so what’s up your a$$e$?
I cant believe this, rock in india’s got Backstreet Boys…this is an outrage, of all the artists and all the musicians they picked backstreet boys…man they couldve got Lamb Of God, Behemoth ,Metallica, Dimmu Borgir, Pearl jam, Mars Volta but why the hell did they get backstreet boys..See i trully respect backstreet boys for what they are and what theyve accomplished but the promoters should be more intelligent on the real demand in India, for god sake.
