You’ve got to hand it to MySpace India for trying. They haven’t, despite becoming the third ‘friendship’ network of choice, given up on Indian indie yet. Their latest attempt at a PR worthy scene grabber is an international format they’re importing, kicking off May 29. MySpace Secret Shows is a series of gigs based on the concept – “disclosed locations, undisclosed artistes”. The gigs will be free for all MySpace members who follow the terribly typo-ed instructions here.
The first gig will be held at the Bandra Amphitheatre on May 29, with the lineup being revealed on May 24 – a full five days before this totally ’secret’ event. Prospectives for the bill include Bhayanak Maut, Motherjane, Scribe, Tripwire and Workshop. While they haven’t mentioned a frequency of these events, they do seem to have their motives clear.
While creating a direct interface for its users is a priority for the brand, the introduction of the Secret Shows franchise marks the beginning of an all-new dimension in India’s burgeoning independent and non-mainstream music segment. Going away from the popular Indy- and Bollywood- music categories, the MySpace Secret Shows will provide a live platform for scores of young, avant-garde musicians. The concerts will be a medium to present alternative music genres, including rock, metal, folk, sufi, electronica and so on.
Update: We got in touch with MySpace India to find out how bands can play these Secret Shows. Here’s what they posted on our comments board. Many thanks for the speedy response
Please send your request through to inmarketing@myspace-inc.com. Further requirements will be shared by the team. We hope that all of you come along to Bandra on May 29 to encourage the bands and the platform as a whole.
As an FYI, we have also launched a monthly “MySpace night @ Bluefrog”. The first edition was last night with “Urban Reflektions featuring Dhruv Ghanekar”.
We will be bringing more such platforms to the indie music community and look forward to working with all of you.
cheers,
Team MySpace India

At least someone is trying. I cant belive no one has done secret shows in India before. Seems like a plan tht could work well here..especially in the suburbs.
How do bands get to play these secret shows?
@Aloysius I think you need to add secretshowsindia as a friend or some such. They didn’t mention in the press release. Will check with them though.
@Aloysius and all other interested indie artists:
