RINGTONES - THE NEW P.E.

November 21st, 2008 Posted in News

Cellphones

Often times I listen to the theme music of a great TV show and proceed to rip the music via Sony Vegas, pick the best 30 seconds, save a 128kbps MP3 and transfer it to my phone via data cable. Simple, right?

PhonepayPlus, a UK company, is pimping a program called PhoneBrain. According to The Register

The programme is intended to help kids develop business plans based around premium-rate numbers as well as educating them about how to use such services.

Essentially, the idea is to (with the help of free downloads and lesson plans from Ministry of Sound) help kids learn how to make ringtones, and sell them. The company wants to make this program part of curriculum in schools in the UK.

Jeez, how long does it take to make a ringtone? And doesn’t the UK educational system have other intelligent coursework to assign to students? Like tea making? Was that racist?
