MYSPACE INDIA, “INDIA HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE SIDESHOW FREAK”

May 16th, 2008 Posted in News

MySpace India

I love the fact that a lot of online ventures are making an ‘India entry’. It’s difficult to imagine why (apart from cheap English speaking labour) such companies would make an ‘entry’ here given that we’ve been accessing them for ages now. Most recently it was YouTube, but a few weeks earlier, MySpace made a much lauded entry, more for the killer gig however.

Today’s Express has an interesting interview with Tarun Malhotra, director of content MySpace India. He says MySpace India gives Indian artists a bigger platform, without explaining how. He also mentions

My personal gain is to make Indian content mainstream across the world. India has always been the flavour of the month, the sideshow freak. It should be inside the main circus tent with the trapeze artists.

Mega. Where in this circus tent does the Indian extreme metal scene fit in? Oh, we do love analogies.

If you’re wondering, the above image is one of the top Google image search results for ‘myspace india’. Perfect.

Reviews
The Subways

The Subways created much ruckus with 2005’s Young For Eternity and it’s lead single ‘Rock & Roll Queen’. They were, um, young; fresh blood with a raw spirit that translated into a loud album and a world tour. The potential for a sophomore that didn’t live up to expectations was tremendous. And in that regard, The Subways do not disappoint.
