RANDOM TRACK: ‘DREAM DREAM’ - PINK NOISE

May 30th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Features

Pink Noise

Pink Noise is the project of people from Skinny Alley and some other people. Their music is a mix of jazz, funk and alternative - yup like a lot of new bands that you’ve been reading about of late.

‘Dream Dream’ is a live recording. The lo-fi goodness of the quality makes this song a special listen. Makes you feel like you’re in a smoky bar drinking cheap beer by yourself and watching an ignored band go cautiously wild with their music. The song is angular, starting at one place, changing tempos along the way with a whole bunch of Amyt Datta (guitar) magic. It’s spacious, as if thrown together on a whim.

If they do record this song in a studio, they shouldn’t.

Listen to ‘Dream Dream’.

THE WEEPIES WANT YOU TO DIRECT THEIR NEW VIDEO

May 30th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Downloads, News

The Weepies

Husband-wife indie folk duo The Weepies want you to direct the video of their song ‘Hideaway’. Deb Talan and Steve Tennen have been the go-to guys for killer TV show music. Their studio recordings are heartfelt and feature great melodies. They’re now hosting a contest on Imeem (who comes up with such shitty names… said the guy who runs IndIecision) wherein fans can download the song, get the lyrics and need to upload their video on Imeem before the third of July.

The winner’s video becomes the official video for ‘Hideaway’ and the winner wins a pretty swell $10,000. Of course the contest is only open to US residents, but hey, at least there’s a free song download!

BREAKING THE CARBON GLACIER

where we talk Laura Veirs

Laura Veirs

In every ‘scene’ there are individuals who bother themselves with peer issues. They care, excessively, about why people do things or say things and this affects the way they pursue their art. Though you may think this is predominantly a mainstream music phenomenon, indie music too has its share of gossip folk. More so in fact because its communities are close knit, and ‘media’ coverage is the product of yuppie bloggers with loads of free time. This makes it very difficult to be a ‘unique’ artist, if you’re someone who doesn’t really have much to say. Apart from the music.
